These formative assessments are conducted at the beginning, middle, and end of the year to monitor your child’s progress in reading and writing. We assess word study skills, reading fluency, reading behaviors, comprehension, and writing to inform instruction and adjust support as needed. This diagnostic tool is included in all Guided Reading and Writing subscriptions. Assessment components are outlined below.
This in-depth assessment series tracks your child’s literacy development over time. It includes evaluations of spelling stage, reading behaviors, oral fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and writing. After each round, you’ll receive a detailed report and a 30-minute consultation to review progress and plan next steps.
Here is the class outline:
1. Word Study Assessments K-8This component gives us an overview of how students decode and some possible reasons behind the difficulty in reading and writing. 5 sections

3. Guided Writing AssessmentsThese assessments inform us how your students approach writing a short piece independently. Unlike the reading comprehension component, we are not assessing their comprehension but rather how they organize thoughts, whether they include key details, and how they approach spelling larger and more complex multisyllabic words. In the primary grades, we will dictate sentences. The Upper Grades assessment includes a short story your students will read before writing. The stories will give the students something to write about. Two stories are provided, each targeted to the level students should be tested at. 10 sections
