Welcome to The Masterpiece Academy’s NGAT Test Prep & Enrichment Program for Grade 2 students! This section provides families with information they need to understand how we prepare students for the Naglieri General Ability Test® (NGAT)—used by Fairfax County Public Schools for Level IV Advanced Academic Program (AAP) screening. You'll learn: -What the NGAT is and how it's used in FCPS -What the test looks like (format, timing, and content) - How our 6-week program builds verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative reasoning skills - How we simulate the real test experience through visual, language-free instruction - What can parents do to support their child’s preparation? Let’s get ready to think critically, solve visually, and build confidence—one puzzle at a time.

Please go over these with your children before our next meeting on September 12, 2026. We will share short student video lessons and parent guides to reinforce what they learned in the classroom. Please administer quiz items for practice and to help them retain the strategies they learned.

This diagnostic assessment is designed solely for educational enrichment and preparation purposes. It is not affiliated with, nor does it replicate, the copyrighted or secure content of the Naglieri General Ability Tests® (NGAT®). This class is intended to help students become familiar with the format, structure, and reasoning skills commonly assessed in general ability tests.

These resources were specially curated by The Masterpiece Academy for students enrolled in our NGAT® Prep and Enrichment class. Each activity, game, and video is intentionally selected to help children develop the same kinds of visual and conceptual reasoning used in the Verbal Reasoning section of the Naglieri General Ability Test (NGAT® ). The resources focus on building skills such as categorization, grouping objects by shared features, and identifying the item that does not belong in a picture-based set. Many activities require no reading or writing, reflecting NGAT’s language-free format and equity-focused design. From printable sorting tasks to classification videos and simple at-home games, each resource supports our goal: helping every child grow confident in their ability to think critically and conceptually using visuals—not words. These are not required, and there is no deadline for submission. Families may explore them at their own pace to extend classroom learning and make reasoning practice playful and engaging at home.

These resources have been specially selected by The Masterpiece Academy for students enrolled in our NGAT® Prep and Enrichment class, with a focus on developing Quantitative Reasoning skills as measured by the NGAT®-Q. In the Quantitative section of the Naglieri General Ability Tests®, children are not solving math problems or equations. Instead, they examine relationships between numbers or symbols to identify simple patterns, sequences, or equivalency. None of the items requires reading or word problems. Our resources reflect this design — they invite students to practice reasoning with number patterns, visual equations, balance puzzles, and pattern games that build logic using pictures rather than text or formulas. These activities are ideal for building flexible thinking, early number logic, and quantitative pattern recognition — all essential for NGAT® success. Like our verbal resources, these are optional and can be explored one at a time, at your family’s own pace.

The Quantitative Reasoning module of the NGAT® Prep and Enrichment Class helps students develop flexible thinking with numbers, symbols, and visual logic. Through hands-on pattern discovery, equivalency puzzles, and matrix-based reasoning, students build the skills needed to analyze quantitative relationships without relying on formal math instruction. This module prepares students for the Quantitative section of the Naglieri General Ability Tests® while enriching their nonverbal problem-solving abilities.

These resources were carefully curated by The Masterpiece Academy for students enrolled in our NGAT® Prep and Enrichment class, with a focus on strengthening the reasoning skills assessed in the Nonverbal section of the NGAT®. In the NGAT® Nonverbal Reasoning test, children are shown patterns of shapes, colors, or spatial arrangements and are asked to select the option that completes the sequence or matrix. These items measure pattern recognition, spatial reasoning, and the ability to reason using only visual information — without relying on reading, writing, or academic content. Our activities mirror this approach by inviting children to engage in puzzle-solving, pattern completion, and visual matrix tasks that train the same type of abstract reasoning. These are optional, playful, and designed to be accessible for all learners — including multilingual students — since no language is needed to complete them.

The Nonverbal Reasoning module of the NGAT® Prep and Enrichment Class cultivates students’ ability to interpret patterns, analyze visual relationships, and apply spatial logic. Using language-free activities such as shape transformations, figure matrices, and classification tasks, students strengthen their abstract thinking and visual problem-solving skills. This module prepares students for the Nonverbal section of the Naglieri General Ability Tests® while fostering cognitive flexibility and spatial reasoning.

The final module of the NGAT® Prep and Enrichment Class includes full-length practice tests designed to simulate the structure and reasoning demands of the Naglieri General Ability Tests®. While these practice tests are not affiliated with or representative of the actual NGAT®, they provide students with a valuable opportunity to apply their verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative reasoning skills under timed conditions. This experience helps reduce test anxiety, improve pacing, and build familiarity with a multiple-choice format. These sessions also allow instructors to provide targeted feedback, reinforce strategies, and celebrate students’ growth in logical and abstract thinking.
