2nd Grade: Strengthening Foundations with Joy and Purpose

Second grade at The Masterpiece Academy is a year of confidence-building. Students grow stronger in reading, writing, and math while discovering how learning connects to their faith and everyday life. With LUOA’s Christ-centered curriculum and our playful, hands-on enrichment, students thrive in a nurturing environment that celebrates curiosity, creativity, and character.

✍️ Language Arts (LAN 200)

Building Confident Readers, Writers, and Communicators
Students explore fiction and nonfiction, expand vocabulary, and grow in fluency and comprehension using strategies like summarizing and predicting. Writing includes narrative stories and nonfiction responses.

Masterpiece Enrichment Includes:

Guided reading groups for fluency and phonics
Writers’ workshops + student story publishing
Spelling and phonics games
Cross-subject literacy (Bible & Science texts)
Public speaking & oral storytelling

Making Numbers Meaningful
Students deepen their understanding of place value, add and subtract within 1,000, and explore shapes, measurement, time, and simple data interpretation.
